Cardiovascular Medicine Program

The Cardiovascular Medicine program provides comprehensive cardiovascular care, including cardiovascular imaging (CT, MRI and echo), nuclear cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and heart failure/transplant.

The field of nuclear cardiology, as we know it today, was pioneered at YNHH by Barry Zaret, MD, a long-time leader in cardiology here. The hospital has trained many generations of fellows in cardiovascular medicine, many of whom are national leaders in the field today. In conjunction with the Department of Radiology, the program provides access to imaging technology and expertise.

Services offered

Heart Failure/Transplant The heart failure/transplant program provides comprehensive evaluation, management and treatment of patients with advanced heart failure. Treatment includes medical therapy, mechanical heart therapy and heart transplant. The newest devices — including total artificial heart — and other innovative procedures are always being explored here.
Interventional Program Our interventional program is focused on providing prompt access to coronary and peripheral interventions to patients with acute and chronic ischemic syndromes. The interventional program also includes comprehensive percutaneous revascularization of patients with advanced coronary and peripheral vascular disease.
Electrophysiology Program The electrophysiology program provides a full spectrum of services, including implantation of heart rhythm management devices and catheter-based treatment of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachyarrhythmias.
