Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

Yale New Haven Children's Hospital's board-certified pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons provide expert and personalized care to patients with congenital heart disease from newborn babies to adults. Our world-class Children’s Heart Center includes pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, neonatologists, cardiac anesthesiologists, cardiac critical care physicians, advanced practice and registered nurses to deliver specialized and comprehensive treatment to the entire spectrum of congenital heart defects.

Surgical procedures and areas of focus:

  • Complete neonatal and pediatric repair of congenital cardiac anomalies
  • Repair of adult congenital heart disease
  • Valve repair or replacement
  • Repair for inherited and congenital aortopathies
  • Hybrid approaches to heart disease for certain lesions in collaboration with interventional cardiologists
  • Blood conservation cardiac surgery
  • ECMO Program

Pediatric Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Heart Assistance

We are proud to be dedicated as a certified pediatric center by UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) to perform pediatric heart transplant and mechanical cardiac assist device program for children with end-stage heart failure. By delivering expert evaluation, management and treatment at one location, our Children’s Heart Center offers children and their families access to a full range of medical and surgical care for heart failure closer to home. Adults with congenital heart disease needing heart transplantation will receive the best possible care through a collaboration of pediatric and adult heart transplantation physicians and surgeons.
