Pediatric Colorectal Disorders Program

The Pediatric Colorectal Disorders Program at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital offers a personalized and comprehensive evaluation by a pediatric gastroenterologist, pediatric surgeon, dietician and psychologist. Our testing modalities allows us to better understand the function of rectum and colon, guide medical or surgical treatment and improve the overall outcome and quality of life of our patients and families.

Conditions we treat

  • Chronic constipation and fecal incontinence
  • Colorectal problems secondary to neurogenic bowel
  • Congenital anorectal malformations
  • Hirschsprung’s disease

Diagnostic tests

  • Anorectal manometry
  • Colon manometry
  • Contrast studies
  • Gastrointestinal transit studies (including wireless motility capsules, radiopaque markers)

Treatments

  • Antegrade continence enema tube placement and management
  • Botox injection to the internal anal sphincter
  • Dietary guidance
  • Prokinetic and secretagogue medications
