Kidney Disease (Nephrology)

Make an Appointment

Our Nephrology Program provides expert evaluation and clinical management for children from infancy to adolescence with the full spectrum of kidney disorders.

At Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, our patients benefit from a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers, and child life professionals, all trained to work with children and adolescents.

The care and management of children with end-stage renal disease, including home dialysis therapies and renal transplantation, are specifically designed to meet the needs of children and their families. Our kidney transplant program, the first children's transplant program in Connecticut, is jointly managed by Pediatric Nephrology and Transplant Surgery. All children who receive a renal transplant are cared for in age-appropriate pediatric units, where a special emphasis is placed on their medical and psychosocial needs.

Renal replacement therapy services at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital include: peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis continuous venous-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVH), and kidney transplantation.

The evaluation and care of children with urinary tract abnormalities is coordinated and jointly managed by pediatric nephrology and pediatric urology team members. Diagnostic procedures include percutaneous kidney biopsy and imaging studies.
