Understanding that girls and young women are prone to different types of injuries compared to teen boys, even when playing the same sports, and benefit from specialized care, Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital created the Female+ Athlete Program - the only one of its kind in Connecticut. An expert team specializing in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, adolescent medicine, psychology, athletic training, and more care for girls and young women participating in team sports, endurance sports, and performance athletics. We welcome all athletes who identify as female or were assigned the female sex at birth.
Ankle sprains, knee injuries, concussions, and stress fractures are among the more common youth sports injuries in girls. There are steps athletes can take to reduce their risk for such sports injuries. Our individualized program focuses on building strength and educating athletes on optimal technique for their sport to reduce the risk of injury, as well as providing state-of-the-art care for athletes who are injured.
