Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Interventional Radiology (IR) experts provide minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat children of all ages. We offer comprehensive care dedicated to the treatment of pediatric patients, including vascular malformations, biopsy service with sedation, pain management, feeding tube maintenance, and expert care in hepatobiliary, urological, gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal disorders.
Our interventional radiologists are recognized as pioneers in the field of minimally invasive medicine. In addition to physicians, the team includes advanced practice providers, nurses, and radiology technologists who support our ability to provide image-guided, non-surgical treatments for vascular and non-vascular disease with excellent outcomes for pediatric patients. Most importantly we partner with parents and at-home caregivers to ensure continuous care and education about your child and their health.
At Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, interventional radiology procedures are performed for a broad range of conditions. We collaborate with many pediatric specialists in anesthesiology, cardiology, gastroenterology, hepatology, hematology/oncology, infectious disease, pain management, urology and transplant providers. Interventional radiologists use advanced imaging modalities including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging to perform procedures through tiny pinholes, thereby avoiding surgery and long recovery times. IR advances enable minimally invasive treatment of many conditions on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to recover in the comfort of their own home.
Conditions that we perform procedures for include:
A teenager named Bella started to notice that her arm hurt, particularly at night. The pain kept worsening, sometimes feeling like a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. Hear Bella's story and learn more about vascular malformations from Stacey A. Bass, MD, PhD, pediatric interventional radiologist and co-director of the Pediatric Vascular Malformations Program at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital.
