Yale New Haven Children's Hospital highly skilled specialty physicians and nurses provide emergency treatment for the full range of illness and injury at the Children's Hospital as well as the emergency departments at Greenwich Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital.
Our pediatric emergency department is dedicated exclusively to the care of children from infancy to age 20. Treatment is overseen by attending physicians, trained in pediatric emergency medicine and care is delivered by specially trained emergency medicine physicians, fellows, physician assistants, pediatric residents, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and technical associates. A certified child life specialist is also available to support children and families. More than 32,500 children are treated in our children’s ED annually.
Patients have access to experts in all areas of pediatric subspecialties including pediatric emergency medicine, toxicology and critical care. Many of the team members are renowned in fields of medical simulation, bedside ultrasound, disaster preparedness, injury prevention, toxicology, medical education and medical informatics.

Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital offers safe and timely transport of critically ill or injured infants and children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via a specially equipped ambulance or SkyHealth helicopter. Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital is a designated Injury Free Site by the national Injury Free Coalition for Kids. As part of our commitment to prevent injuries and educate the community, our Injury Prevention Department provides an array of services to the community to help keep our children safe.
