Overview

Our Advanced Practice Provider Lactation Consultants provide individualized, one-to-one appointments, available in person or through video visits. Our advanced practice providers are also Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and have extensive training in maternal lactation, infant oral anatomy, feeding and breast pumping. They can diagnose and prescribe for both you and your baby if needed. We commonly work with families who are having issues with:

• Babies with poor weight gain
• Latching difficulties
• Sore/cracked nipples
• Low milk production
• Overproduction or high milk production
• Mastitis
• Exclusive Pumping
• Back to work planning/pumping
• Inducing lactation for adoption or births via surrogacy

The initial consultation includes a confidential discussion of the medical history of parent, baby, and birth story. Our lactation consultant will then provide an assessment and provide recommendations, along with a written detailed plan. Appointments generally last an hour. In person appointments can also include bilirubin tests to check for liver issues and weight checks.  Partners are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Most insurance is accepted. Yale Health Plan patients require prior authorization.

Our team also provides prenatal visits and plans for patients who may be at risk for breastfeeding issues; including those with a history of breastfeeding/chestfeeding issues, breast surgery or endocrine disorders.
