Keith Churchwell, MD appointed Vice President and Executive Director of Yale New Haven Hospital’s Cardiovascular Services

New Haven, CT (November 6, 2014) — Yale New Haven Hospital recently announced that Keith Churchwell, MD has been appointed vice president and executive director of Heart and Vascular Services, effective December 1. Dr. Churchwell is leaving his position of executive director and chief medical officer for the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute to serve in this new role.

"We are delighted to welcome Keith to this new position at YNHH," said Richard D'Aquila, president of Yale New Haven Hospital and executive vice president of Yale New Haven Health System. "His experience and talent in building statewide and regional cardiovascular care systems will lead the next phase of developing our preeminent Heart and Vascular network at Yale New Haven."

Board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, Dr. Churchwell has been at Vanderbilt since 1999 and has also served as the director of cardiac imaging for Vanderbilt University Medical Center since 2006. Churchwell also served as associate professor of Medicine and Radiology. Prior to joining Vanderbilt, he was a partner with Page-Campbell Cardiology Group which entered into a clinical partnership with the division of cardiovascular medicine at Vanderbilt in 1998.

Dr. Churchwell earned his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, MO) and Bachelor's degree from Harvard University. He completed his postgraduate training in cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology at Emory School of Medicine. He will have direct oversight of all cardiovascular operations.

Dr. Churchwell is very active in his community. He has been on the senior board of the Nashville Symphony for the past three years. He is also the immediate past president of the American Heart Association (AHA) greater southeast affiliate. For AHA, he sits on a number of senior committees.

A native of Nashville, Dr. Churchwell and his wife Dr. Leslie Douglas-Churchwell will reside in Connecticut.
