Our Commitment to Your Privacy

At Yale New Haven Hospital, we work hard to ensure the privacy of patients and maintain the confidentiality their information and medical records. Like all accredited healthcare institutions, we follow a federal law called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which is designed to protect the privacy and confidentiality of patient information.

Consent to Share Information with Family and Caregivers

There may be situations in which you want your medical provider to share information with family members, loved ones or caregivers. If so, let your healthcare team know. They will assist you in the proper procedure for giving your consent to share specific information with specific people.

Consent to Participate in Research Studies

As part of our commitment to your privacy, we require you to give written permission before participating in any research studies and clinical trials offered at YNHH. If you have questions or concerns about what it means to take part in a research study or your rights as a research study participant, call our human investigation committee, which reviews and approves all research studies at Yale School of Medicine YNHH, at 203-785-4688.

Website Privacy

Our commitment to the privacy of patient information extends to use of our website. Any data we collect about you will be used only to help us develop customized programs and services suited to your needs and interests. We will not share your personal data with any party outside Yale New Haven Hospital or Yale New Haven Health.

Our Privacy Policies

We insist that our staff observe patient confidentiality-respecting your right to privacy about your medical records and experience at our hospital. Please download the following documents for detailed information on our privacy policies (in PDF format).
