Visiting Hours & Guidelines

Visitors are expected to comply with YNHH’s visitation policy. Passes are issued at hospital entrances to everyone visiting inpatient units.

Please note: Visitation restrictions are sometimes put in place for the safety of the patient, staff and visitors (i.e. flu season, pandemic). Please check with staff for the most current visitation guidelines.

  • General visiting hours: 10 am - 8 pm
  • Specialty units (Labor and Birth, Maternity, Neonatal Intensive Care and Psychiatric): Visitors are welcome but guidelines may vary; please ask a staff member for details.
  • Any visitor exposed to chicken pox, tuberculosis, measles, mumps, respiratory illness or other infectious disease within the past three weeks are not permitted.
  • Please do not visit if you have symptoms of an infection: fever, rash, sneezing, sore throat, new or worsening cough, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

Masking: Currently, it is recommended but not required that patients and visitors wear a face mask. Patients are required to mask if they have a respiratory tract infection. Visitors with a possible respiratory tract infection are asked not to visit.

Please call the Yale New Haven Health Patient Relations team at 203-688-3430 with any questions.

Children's Hospital

Please note: Visitation restrictions are sometimes put in place for the safety of the patient, staff and visitors (i.e. flu season, respiratory illness). Please check with staff for the most current visitation guidelines.

  • Parents and guardians are not considered visitors, and as such are welcome 24 hours a day. Generally, one parent or legal guardian can stay overnight. Unfortunately, siblings cannot be accommodated overnight.
  • Parents and guardians will receive a special ID wristband to wear at all times in the hospital. Other visitors and family members will need passes from information desks located at the main entrance of the hospital.
  • Friends and family members may visit from 10 am - 8 pm, while you are with your child. They cannot visit without your permission if you are not at the bedside. Visitors younger than age 18 must have an adult with them. Note: In the pediatric ICU, no children under 12 are permitted and only two individuals are allowed at the bedside at a time.
  • Elevators in the East, West and South Pavilions are locked at 8 pm. After that time, visitors who wish to go up to the floors must request assistance from a Protective Services Officer.
  • Visitors, parents and siblings must wash their hands or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers before entering and when leaving the child’s room. Your child may be placed on isolation precautions which require all to wear gown, gloves and/or mask.
