Brian M. DeBroff, MD, FACS

Dr. DeBroff specializes in cataract and IOL implant surgery. He has particular clinical and research interest in congenital, pediatric developmental, and traumatic cataracts, and multifocal IOL implants. He served as director of cataract and IOL implant surgery at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the Yale University School of Medicine from 1999 – 2006 and is now an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Yale University. He is now chief of cataract surgery at the West Haven Veterans Hospital. He practices with Eye Surgery Associates in Stratford and New Haven, Connecticut. He received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from Tufts University where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the Sandoz Award for academic excellence. He completed his residency at the Eye and Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh and an anterior segment fellowship at the Gimbel Eye Centre in Calgary, Canada. In 2000, Dr. DeBroff completed a Yale Executive Management Program. Dr. DeBroff has played an active role in the Yale Ophthalmology residency program since 1994 and was presented with the teaching award by the residents in 1998, and served as Residency Program Director and Vice Chairman. He has over 50 publications including a book on phacoemulsification and seven book chapters and has lectured nationally and internationally. He serves on the Committee of Applicants for the American College of Surgeons and is on the Cataract Advisory Council for Alcon, Inc and is a consultant for Advanced Medical Optics, Inc.
