Biography - Joe M. El-Khoury, MD

Joe El-Khoury, PhD, is a clinical chemist who specializes in laboratory medicine. He directs the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory, which focuses on identifying and measuring substances in blood and other fluids to help diagnose and manage diseases.

As an associate professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. El-Khoury conducts research aimed at improving laboratory standards, reducing testing errors, and enhancing how diagnostic data inform medical decisions. He uses advanced analytical techniques, such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, to develop more accurate ways of evaluating and monitoring disease. His efforts include investigating newer markers that may detect kidney injuries earlier than traditional tests.

Dr. El-Khoury completed his doctoral training at Cleveland State University and pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He is board-certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry.
