    Biography - Ruchika S. Karnik, MD

    Ruckika Karnik, MD, specializes in general pediatric cardiology with a focus on noninvasive imaging including transthoracic and fetal echocardiograms, which detect heart disease in unborn babies. She diagnoses and treats children with congenital and acquired heart diseases–both in and out of the hospital.Some of the common general outpatient cardiac conditions Dr. Karnik manages include chest pain, heart murmur and syncope (fainting caused by low blood pressure). Treating complex congenital heart lesions can be both challenging and rewarding, Dr. Karnick says.“It can be really stressful for the family to make some crucial decisions about the care of their child. I like to be an advocate for the child and the family and in the process enjoy the strong bond I build with them,” she says. “Children are very resilient to some of the most complex procedures. It is indeed gratifying and humbling to watch them recover from major illness or surgery and have their smile, playfulness and energy come back.
