Making sure patients receive safe, effective care is a continual process. We regularly monitor our performance to see where we're hitting the mark, and where we can improve. We collect and use data to make informed, timely decisions that translate to better patient safety and outcomes.
Yale New Haven Hospital's mission to deliver the highest quality, safest care is supported by a system-wide initiative to continually:
Knowing how well a hospital performs allows you to make better choices about where to receive medical care. Helping you understand where we excel and strive for improvement is important to us. On this site you'll find up-to-date information and reports on the competency, quality and safety of care provided at YNHH.
Our team of quality assurance experts continually monitors and measures performance across the entire Yale New Haven Health system. We evaluate and survey patients and staff at all levels to create hospital "scorecards." We also rely on reporting from national agencies such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and The Joint Commission to tell us how we're doing.
We evaluate all general and specialty units, using a variety of methods to collect data and look to studies done by independent agencies to rate patient safety, clinical quality, areas of expertise, use of technology, patient satisfaction, fiscal responsibility, operational productivity, operational efficiency, adherence to national standards of practice, patient outcomes and more.
Performance reports and scores are shared with leadership, physicians, nurses, administrators and other key staff members so they can monitor progress and make informed decisions on where and how to make improvements. This data also drives changes and improvements to policies and day-to-day operations related to patient care and safety.
When it comes to performance data, our policy is transparent. That means, regardless of how we score or what the numbers say, we'll share the reports and statistics.
