Silver Hill Hospital and Yale New Haven Health announce new psychiatry collaboration The Steward House at Silver Hill

Tuesday, March 6, 2018

New Haven, CT (March 5, 2018) – Yale New Haven Health, Silver Hill Hospital and Yale Medicine, the clinical arm of the Yale School of Medicine (YSM), are pleased to announce a new collaboration focused on the treatment of people who, in the course of managing significant executive or professional career responsibilities, have developed serious mental health or substance use problems.

Silver Hill Hospital was established in 1931 and is a national leader in providing compassionate and individualized mental health and addiction care. The new program, “The Steward House at Silver Hill,” is located in a stately home on the hospital campus in New Canaan, CT. This program is designed to provide personalized psychological and medical treatment that promotes personal growth and is responsive to professional issues that often complicate treatment.

The Steward House is led by Samuel Ball, Ph.D., professor of Psychiatry, YSM and director of Psychology at Silver Hill Hospital. Dr. Ball is a nationally recognized innovator in treatment of substance use and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. Prior to leading The Steward House, Dr. Ball directed several programs at The APT Foundation in New Haven and The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse in New York City. Dr. Ball will lead the program with Eric Collins, MD, physician-in-chief at Silver Hill Hospital and associate clinical professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Collins is a national leader in addiction medicine and psychiatry.

“This is a wonderful collaboration. There is real synergy here, as the new program uniquely weds the distinctive professionalism and environment of the Silver Hill Hospital with the innovative leadership of Yale Psychiatry,” noted John Krystal, MD, chair of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and chief of Psychiatry at Yale New Haven Hospital.

“Born of a strong working relationship with one of the premier departments of psychiatry in the country, The Steward House is a world-class program that meets an acute and growing need,” according to John Santopietro, MD, president and medical director at Silver Hill.

“Yale New Haven Health is very excited about this new partnership,” said Michael Holmes, SVP Operations, Yale New Haven Hospital. “The Steward House partnership will bring together the exceptional care our health system is known for with the world-renowned care of Silver Hill.”
