An historic achievement in advancing pulmonary embolism care, reflecting the highest standards of clinical excellence and patient-centered care.
New Haven, CT (Sept. 19, 2024) – The PERT Consortium, a leading authority in pulmonary embolism care, announced that Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) was designated as one of the first of three Pulmonary Embolism Comprehensive Care Centers of Excellence in the world.
YNHH not only successfully completed a rigorous application and evaluation process but also demonstrated its unwavering commitment to providing exceptional, evidence-based care for patients with pulmonary embolism (PE).
“This Center of Excellence designation for PE care is new as of this year, and after applying, YNHH was one of only 12 sites out of over 300 that were selected for the initial review process,” said Akhil Khosla, MD, director of Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT), YNHH and assistant professor of internal medicine, Yale School of Medicine (YSM), in the section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.
As a PE Comprehensive Care Center of Excellence, the hospital is now recognized as a national leader in treating and managing PE, offering cutting-edge therapies, multidisciplinary care teams, and innovative approaches to improving patient outcomes.
“We are honored to be recognized as one of the first Comprehensive Care Pulmonary Embolism Centers of Excellence by the PERT Consortium,” said Jeffrey Pollak, MD, co-director of PERT, YNHH and Robert I. White, Jr. Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, YSM. “This designation reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional care to patients facing the challenges of pulmonary embolism, ensuring they receive the best possible outcomes.”
Accredited sites undergo a comprehensive review that assesses their capabilities across several critical areas, including a multidisciplinary PE response team, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, adherence to evidence-based protocols, and a commitment to ongoing education and research.
The Consortium’s goal is to identify and elevate centers that demonstrate clinical excellence and contribute to advancing PE care through innovative practices and continuous improvement, ultimately improving outcomes for patients with pulmonary embolism.
YNHH was recognized at this month’s National PERT Consortium Annual Conference.
