What You Need to Know About Migraines

Is that pain in your head a headache or a migraine? If you’ve ever had a migraine, you are painfully aware of the difference.

Nearly 40 million Americans experience migraines, a statistic that means someone is living with migraine in one out every four households in the United States. Sirisha Sanamandra, MD,  a neurologist at Yale New Haven Hospital and assistant professor of Clinical Neurology at Yale School of Medicine, explains how a migraine differs from a headache.

How to Perform CPR With Confidence

Anyone can help save a life by performing hands-only CPR – in just two steps. The American Heart Association recommends first calling 9-1-1 as soon as you see someone collapse. Next, use your hands to push in the center of the person’s chest at 100 to 120 beats per minute – the same rate as songs like “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.
Despite the simplicity of hands-only CPR, many people may not feel confident acting in the moment of a medical emergency. Resuscitation experts from Yale New Haven Hospital offered these tips to help people feel more confident with CPR.

Get Fit with YNHH Classes in Guilford

Join our trained experts and improve overall function through exercise with fitness classes offered both in person and via Zoom. All classes are held at YNHH-Home Care Plus, 753 Boston Post Road, Guilford. 

Proof of vaccination and masks are required for in-person classes.

Exercise for Better Balance (in person only) 
This class features strength training, stretching and flexibility, and balance training. Exercises are safe and effective for all levels. 

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 -10 am
Through June 15  
Cost: $75 

Fitness and Movement Basics (in person and via Zoom)
This class features chair exercises that are appropriate for people with mobility challenges. Exercises also focus on muscular strength, range of motion, agility and balance, and cardio. Activities that can be accomplished while seated and will conclude with a stretch and relaxation segment.

Mondays, 9:30 -10:30 am
Through June 12 (no class on Memorial Day)
Cost $30 

Functional Cardio Fitness (in person and via Zoom)
This class is for active older adults with a robust activity level and prior fitness experience. It is the perfect class for those who have already taken Exercise for Better Balance. The class provides strength training, agility, balance, coordination, range of motion, and cardiovascular segments. Participants must be able to stand throughout the class.

Mondays, 10:45 -11:45 am
Through June 12 (no class on Memorial Day)
Cost $30
