To ensure proper disinfection, be sure to clean and disinfect glucose meters after every patient use. Follow the two-step, two fresh-wipe process.
Step 1: Clean the meter, using a fresh Super Sani-Cloth Germicidal Wipe (purple top). For patients on Contact Plus Precautions use Sani-Cloth BLEACH Germicidal Wipes (orange packet). Wipe the external surface of the meter thoroughly and let it air dry.
Step 2: Disinfect the meter: Using a new, fresh wipe, thoroughly wipe the top, bottom and both sides of the meter, at least three times horizontally followed by three times vertically. Avoid the barcode scanner and electrical connector. Gently wipe the surface area of the test strip port, making sure no fluid enters the port.
Notes: Wipe out the docking stations periodically to keep them free of dust. If cleaning and disinfecting using bleach wipes, remove residue with an alcohol wipe after step 2.
