Miranda Montagna, RN; Kelsey Donecker
Congratulations to these Great Catch winners for modeling HRO safety behaviors and taking action to improve patient safety.
Miranda Montagna, RN, SLA 3, was recognized for attention to detail and using critical thinking. After noticing that a patient was wandering and had a psychiatric history, she initiated a bed alarm. Shortly after, Montagna and Assistant Patient Services Manager Jessica Markella, RN, heard the alarm and found the patient apparently attempting suicide. By listening to her “internal smoke detector,” Montagna was able to anticipate and prevent patient self-harm.
Kelsey Donecker, Heart and Vascular Center sonographer, was recognized for attention to detail, speaking up for safety and escalating her concerns to the radiologist when she believed an initial interpretation of a scan had missed some key findings. The radiologist accepted the cross check and upon review, identified a serious condition. Donecker’s use of CHAMP behaviors helped prevent a potentially life-threatening situation.
