Kayleigh Darcy, assistant chief technologist, CT Scan, explained what it’s like to work in Radiology to attendees at the Career Pathways Exploration event. Darcy said many attendees had questions about getting started in Radiology..
From left, Alex Avila, neurophysiology tech, spoke with Inez Millen-Townsend, and Suzzette Nembhard, patient care associates, Surgical Oncology (NP 15), at the Career Pathways Exploration event.
From left, Laura Cronan, RN, patient services manager, Surgery (EP 6-5), and Sharee Parker, supervisor, Pharmacy Technician Training Program, spoke with Rosalee Williamson, ambulatory care associate, at the YNHH Career Pathways Exploration event at the York Street Campus March 28. The event paired interested staff with representatives from departments looking to fill high-demand jobs.
Employees from a host of different departments learned about in-house career opportunities and how to seize them during Pathways to Career Explorations events held throughout Yale New Haven Health System last month.
During events at both Yale New Haven Hospital cafeterias, staff and managers from Nursing, Pharmacy, Radiology and other departments that are hiring met with attendees and spoke about what it’s like to work in their departments.
“It’s nice because people want to further their careers, but sometimes they just don’t know how or where to go,” said Rosalee Williamson, ambulatory care associate, Infusion 7, who attended the March 28 event at the York Street Campus. “I’ve been wanting to move up the ladder but wasn’t sure where to start, so this is very helpful.”
Representatives from Talent Acquisition, the Institute for Excellence, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, HRConnect and EdAssist were also on-hand to provide education and training information.
“Our goal is to expose employees to new career options within the hospital,” explained Ann LaCamera, senior talent acquisition partner. “We want to help people expand their knowledge and skills so they can advance their careers.”
“The Career Pathways events are incredibly successful as they demonstrate our commitment to the growth of our employees,” added Sarah Kernizan, senior manager, Talent Acquisition. “The events foster a collaborative environment where employees can engage with different departments to learn about in-demand careers, the education and/or training required, and how to leverage YNHHS benefits to get there.”
Representatives from departments that participated in the event echoed those sentiments.
“A lot of the questions we’re getting are about how people can get started in this field,” said Kayleigh Darcy, assistant chief technologist, CT Scan. “It’s important to them that they understand what radiology is, what all the radiology career options are and what they need to do to take advantage of them.”
Suzzette Nembhard, patient care associate, Surgical Oncology (NP 15), was happy she attended, saying, “That was great. That was exactly what I was looking for. I’ve wanted to get into an EEG program and now I know exactly what I have to do.”
