Congratulations to these Great Catch winners for modeling HRO safety behaviors and taking action to improve patient safety.
Kristen Tupay, autopsy morgue attendant, was recognized for attention to detail, practicing a questioning attitude and 200% accountability. When reviewing a patient’s chart before an autopsy, Tupay noticed documented symptoms in line with COVID-19. She escalated her concerns and performed a COVID test, which came back positive. The autopsy was prepared according to specialized COVID procedures, which ensured staff safety and minimized infection risk.
Paul Ucci, RN, Main 2, was recognized for attention to detail, escalating concerns and timely interventions that prevented a negative patient outcome. When a patient was admitted for cellulitis of the hand, Ucci’s full patient assessment identified issues in the patient’s abdomen. He escalated his concerns to the provider, who ordered CT imaging that showed the patient had a perforation of the colon requiring immediate surgery.
