YNHH Nurse Residency Program earns national accreditation

Nurses and nursing leaders gathered Dec. 3 for the phone call from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) informing them that YNHH’s Nurse Residency Program had earned Accreditation with Distinction from the ANCC’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program.

Yale New Haven Hospital’s Nurse Residency Program recently became the only Connecticut program and one of just 62 worldwide accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

YNHH earned Accreditation with Distinction – the highest level – from the ANCC’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program, which sets the global standard for nurse residency programs.

Since launching in 2005, YNHH’s Nurse Residency Program has helped more than 2,600 new registered nurses, including those transitioning from academia to professional nursing practice and those with less than one year of experience as a registered nurse in an acute-care setting.

ANCC’s accreditation commission identified 12 best practices in YNHH’s Nurse Residency Program and cited a number of strengths, including program leadership, design and development and the program’s role in helping nurses learn and become part of the culture, practices and values of the hospital and different practice settings where nurses will work.
