Yale New Haven Health has begun a five-year partnership with Siemens to comprehensively update the fleet of MRI, CT and PET-CT scanners at YNHHS hospitals and ambulatory care centers.
In addition, Siemens will provide rigorous educational support for staff and physicians, as well as in-depth imaging evaluation tools across YNHHS.
“We have entered into not only an equipment-purchasing agreement with Siemens, but also an entirely new radiology partnership,” said Rob Goodman, MB BChir, chief of Radiology, Yale New Haven Hospital and chair of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, Yale School of Medicine. “Siemens will be working with us to use this technology to enhance operational efficiencies so that we can provide the best imaging care possible to our patients.”
A number of pieces of Siemens equipment are already in use throughout YNHHS, such as the SOMATOM Force CT scanners at the York Street and Saint Raphael campuses. These scanners provide faster, more powerful scanning but require lower doses of contrast material and deliver less radiation for patients. Under the new partnership, several Force scanners will be installed at additional sites across the system.
Diagnostic Imaging technologists throughout Yale New Haven Health will receive in-depth training on the Siemens equipment, including some who will become super-users, said Cheryl Granucci, director, Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, YNHH. Other benefits for staff and physicians include tools for sharing scan protocols, enhanced radiation monitoring and enhanced image post-processing across the health system.
“Most importantly, our patients will have access to the most advanced imaging equipment and expert staff, no matter where in the health system they go for care,” she said.
