Neurosciences Center and Bed Tower Project Update: Look How Far We’ve Come!
It’s hard to believe Yale New Haven Hospital broke ground on the Neurosciences and Bed Tower project at the Saint Raphael Campus only a year and a half ago.
Crews have made significant and highly visible progress on the project, including the first of the two new towers, the first phase of the new Orchard Street garages, major utility upgrades and renovation and expansion of clinical areas within the existing SRC buildings and at other sites.
Here’s a glimpse of what’s going on.
Glass is already being installed on the lower floors of the McGivney Tower exterior, providing a hint of the impressive façade to come.
Contractors have been hard at work installing plumbing, electrical and other components of the McGivney Tower’s extensive infrastructure. This floor is the heart of the building’s mechanical systems.
In a future patient room, the interior of a “head wall” that will be at the top of each patient bed shows hookups for electrical, medical gas, suction and other components.
The valet parking garage that will be beneath the Sherman Tower is under construction.
Early in the Neurosciences and Bed Tower project, crews installed seven new boilers in the existing SRC boiler plant. The plant now has the capacity to provide heat and hot water to current campus buildings along with the new towers.
The new Orchard Street Garage opened to employees last October. The new bridge from the hospital to the garage is scheduled to open this month.
Once the new garage opened at Orchard and George streets, the original Orchard Street garage at Orchard and Chapel streets came down. It will be replaced with another garage that will be connected to the hospital via the Cronin’s Crossing bridge.
