Congratulations to these Great Catch winners for modeling HRO safety behaviors and taking action to improve patient safety.
Cheryl Mingione, RN, York Street Campus Emergency Department, was recognized for attention to detail and 200% accountability. A new patient had arrived on a day when the ED was at maximum capacity. The patient had been alert and active upon arrival. While walking by, Mingione noticed the patient appeared pale and unresponsive. She immediately assessed the patient and alerted the ED team. The patient was moved to a trauma room where, thanks to Mingione’s use of CHAMP behaviors, they received lifesaving care and support..
Dawn Petrucci, RN, stroke nurse navigator, was recognized for attention to detail and speaking up for safety. Against medical advice, a patient decided to leave the hospital. Petrucci stayed in contact with him to coordinate the necessary workups in the outpatient setting and contacted the patient’s significant other to express her concerns about his condition. After multiple communications from Petrucci, the patient agreed to be readmitted to the hospital to receive the care and attention he needed.
