Yale New Haven Health and Yale School of Medicine leaders joined staff to cut the ribbon for the Yale Center for Infectious Diseases’ new location on Orchard Street. Services previously offered in two separate locations are now available in one center, with easy access for patients.
On Nov. 27, Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale School of Medicine held a ribbon-cutting to officially open the new Yale Center for Infectious Diseases.
The center, at 200 Orchard St., combines services previously provided at the Nathan Smith Clinic on York Street, across from YNHH’s York Street Campus, and the Haelen Infectious Disease Center at the Saint Raphael Campus.
The new center will provide a variety of clinical services in one place, including comprehensive general infectious diseases consultation; comprehensive HIV care and prevention; care for transplant infectious disease conditions; a long COVID program; and travel medicine (currently in development).
“We provide state-of-the art care at the center, and every patient will receive equal and equitable care,” said Lydia Barakat, MD, center director and associate professor of medicine (infectious diseases), Yale School of Medicine. “It's important for our patients to feel they are in a space where they are welcome, independent of their diagnosis, sexual or gender identity, insurance, or educational status.”
With the new, approximately 10,000-square-foot center, the number of patient visits is expected to increase from 12,000 to nearly 25,000 a year, with patients coming from throughout Connecticut. Learn more about the Yale Center for Infectious Diseases.
