Grimes Center earns top quality ranking

grimes center quality award

At an April 25 celebration, Sister Ann Matthew Lorusso, parish nurse coordinator, Geriatric Services, was among the Yale New Haven Health leaders and employees who gathered to celebrate the Grimes Center’s five-star quality rating.

For the second time, the Grimes Center, YNHHS’ adult rehabilitation center, is among a select group of facilities nationwide to earn top rankings on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services nursing home quality measures. Grimes earned the top, five-star rating for clinical measures that cover falls, urinary tract infections and pressure ulcers, the percentage of residents receiving flu and pneumonia vaccinations, residents’ mental health and other areas.

During its nearly 60 years, the Grimes Center has seen many changes in its facilities and clinical services, including significant changes resulting from the 2012 integration with Yale New Haven Hospital. The Grimes Center team collaborates with staff and physicians in a variety of Yale New Haven Health clinical service lines, including Cardiology, Pulmonary, Oncology, Orthopedics and Transplantation.

In addition to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, Grimes last year provided more than $1 million in free care to patients in need and transitioned these patients back into the community, often to better living arrangements.
